Germany preserved their perfect record against Hong Kong with a 34-13 victory in Heidelberg on Saturday, but it was not enough to improve their standing of 30th in the latest IRB World Rankings, merely inch them closer to Ukraine above them.
The home side, who would have dropped a minimum of six places with defeat, had sat only four hundredths above the Czech Republic going into match, but have no increased that cushion to nearly a point and closed to only nine hundredths below Ukraine.
Tries from debutant wing Bastian Himmer, centre Benjamin Simm and captain Alexander Widiker, together with 19 points from the boot of fly half Fabian Heimpel, helped Germany to victory over Hong Kong in the first match of their European tour.
Hong Kong slip one place to 36th – swapping places with Tunisia – as a result of the defeat and will be hoping to bounce back when they face Norway in Stavanger on Wednesday. Dai Rees side then conclude their tour in Amsterdam against the Netherlands on Saturday.
